New Delhi:

Venerable seer Sathya Sai Baba is very critical as all his vital organs stopped responding to treatment. As reports coming in from Puttaparthi, Baba’s liver has stopped functioning and his blood pressure is very low. He continues to be on ventilation. It may be recalled that  Sathya Sai Baba was hospitalised on March 28 following problems related to heart and respiration.

In view of the deteriorating health of Sathya Sai  Baba, the Andhra Pradesh Police have deployed additional forces here to maintain law and order.

"Non-functioning of the liver and persistent episodes  of low blood pressure are causing great worry to the doctors,"  Dr A N Safaya, Director, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher  Sciences, said here.

His breathing is still ventilator dependent and the  process of slow hemodialysis has been started in the morning  to assist the kidneys, he said.

The doctors are putting their best efforts to improve  his clinical condition, Dr Safaya said.

Anxious devotees are rushing to the hospital praying for his miracle. Since last evening, when the news of Baba’s deteriorating health first came in, prayer meetings are being held across the town.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh  government has now Puttaparthi and Anantapur district on a high-alert and thrown a four-level security blanket around his Ashram Prashanti Nilayam.

In a related development, the state government also fears an ugly succession battle to control the Sai Trust that oversees a vast empire of hospitals, schools and temples. As per reports, two important members of the Trust- former chief justice of India PN Bhagwati and Indulal Shah - were rushing to Puttaparthi.
